How far in advance should I order a cake?
We are often booked up many weeks ahead of time so the sooner the better to reserve your place on our calendar. Especially during wedding season, we get really busy, and we cannot possibly accommodate another cake. We ask for at least three to six months’ notice for wedding cakes, two weeks for some specialty cakes/3D cakes, and for as little as 24 to 48 hour notice for our retail cakes. Of course, you can always call to ask us with shorter notice. We definitely attempt to accommodate last minute requests if our schedule allows. Please call or email to find out our availability for your particular date.

How do I order a wedding/ more elaborate/ specialty/ 3D cake?
To start the order process you may either call us directly at…. or, please send us an email to … …containing all the following information:
  • the date of your event
  • your requested appointment time(which should be at least 72 hours in advance)
  • the occasion/nature of your event (wedding, bat mitzvah, bridal shower, etc )
  • the event location, delivery address, and delivery time
  • how many people you will need to serve
  • your daytime phone number
  • your email address
  • choose five flavors from our flavor list you would like to sample(if you are interested in a wedding cake); two flavors for all the other custom/specialty cakes.
  • an idea of what kind of cake design you are looking for
Emails are checked daily after 7:30 pm except on Sundays. We will contact you to discuss your order and/or schedule an appointment. Because right now we are in the process of opening our first front store, our bakery is open by appointment only, therefore we do not have any cakes pre-made for sale. Every cake we make is custom made to order from start to finish.

I am not ready to make design decisions yet but I want to reserve our date so you don’t get booked up, is that possible? If so, how much is it and can I get a refund, if necessary?

Yes. You may reserve your date with a $150 deposit. Final arrangements just need to be made at least 8 weeks prior to your event. Again, we ask that you be absolutely certain that you would like to work with us, as all deposits are date specific and non-refundable.

Do you offer tastings? How many people can I bring with me? How far in advance should I make a tasting appointment?
Yes, we offer a complimentary tasting and consultation for you and maximum one guest. We are fully aware that cake tasting is an essential element of your happy event and that often times the whole family is eager to be a part of, in time we’ve found out that too many opinions can be overwhelming and make your decision more challenging. Therefore we can only accommodate a total of three guests. Arrangements must be made in advance for more than two so we are sure to have enough cake for you. We normally offer five cake/filling combinations from our most popular ones, but, in case you have some preferences, please send us an e-mail choosing the five combinations you would like to sample from our flavor list.
We also offer tastings for more elaborate /3D cakes, but in only 2 flavor combinations of your own choice.
As for how far in advance you need to make the tasting appointment…well, if the tasting is for a wedding cake, we’ll make the necessary arrangements depending on our/yours schedule…if it’s a specialty cake…we’ll very much appreciate the courtesy of at least a week notice.

Is there a charge for the consultation? How long can we expect to be there?
There is not a fee for tastings. An hour is set-aside for each client, which has proven to be ample time to both design and taste our cakes. Often, appointments are scheduled before and after yours so please plan to be on time so we have a full hour. Please keep in mind that cake samples are prepared specifically for your appointment. We ask for the courtesy of 48 hours ‘notice if your appointment needs to be rescheduled. Cancellations without the appropriate notice will be subject to a fee of $25 in order to rebook the appointment.
If you come in for a design session for an elaborate birthday, anniversary party, etc, you may purchase a tasting plate for $10. If we gave away cake to everyone, we wouldn't have any to sell. And that would be a shame, wouldn’t it?

What do I need to bring to our wedding appointment?
It would be so much helpful to have made venue, color and floral decisions prior to our meeting so we have that information available. Additionally, any element from your event that you feel we can draw inspiration from is great to bring as well. Pictures of your dress, venue, your invitations or design motif… a monogram, color swatches, ribbons, cake tops… a piece of wrapping paper that catches your eye… it can all be helpful. The design process is definitely a collaborative effort and we’ll keep going until you have a design you love. That being said you may also just bring yourselves! Our portfolio has hundreds of cakes for you to browse through and we have endless ideas.

If I want fresh flowers on my cake how can that be arranged?
We typically coordinate directly with your florist to ensure we are using the same varieties of flowers. We purchase the flowers and place them on the cake during the execution of the design, prior to delivery. If you prefer your florist to provide the flowers, they can arrange them onsite after our delivery window, which is typically an hour prior to your event. In this case, we have to take into consideration that anyone who touches the cake after our delivery creates a sanitation and aesthetic liability; therefore we ask not to be made responsible for any ulterior circumstances/ problems that might appear.

Do you make sugar free or vegan cakes? Do you use organic ingredients?
We currently do not make sugar free or vegan cakes. All of our ingredients are natural and of the highest quality. Locally sourced, organic ingredients are definitely used whenever possible. We truly believe that ingredients really do make all the difference and are committed to using only the finest products available.

What can I expect to pay for a wedding cake? Do you have a price list?
We do not have a general price list because each cake is individually designed. Most custom cakes are priced per person; smaller orders (typically, anything under 50 servings) are priced per project. Because of the care we give to each order we must require a minimum of $250 on all of our cakes. Pricing starts at $3.75 per serving for a plain iced cake. Our pricing tends to average from $4-$6 per serving. Ultimately the price is based on the complexity of design and the number of people being served. Sheet cakes are available to supplement larger parties and are priced at $3.75 per serving. Before you arrive for your consultation, it is helpful to have a budget in mind for what you would like to spend on your cake. This will give us a better sense of what we can design for you.

How many servings of cake do I need at my wedding?
When deciding on the size of the wedding cake, you should take into consideration that most weddings will do well with 1 serving of bride's cake for everyone, and half that number for groom's cakes. This allows for 1 and a half pieces of cake per guest. That doesn’t mean that you have to pick and choose who gets groom’s cake and who doesn’t. Wouldn’t that be a mess for the caterer?
Most people will have one piece of cake. Some people, like us, will go back and have 2 pieces. We understand there are a small number of people out there that will not have any cake, sadly. We've never met these people, but we are assured they exist. Very strange, those people…they have no idea what they are missing…

Do you ship your cakes?
No, do not ship our cakes at any time.

Do you deliver? What is your delivery area? What do you charge for delivery?
Delivery is available for wedding cakes and cakes that require on-site assembly.
Our delivery area is within 100 miles radius and runs from $1-$3 per mile. We are willing to travel anywhere our cakes can safely be delivered so please contact us to inquire about a specific location.
Delivery and set up fees are additional and are calculated by distance traveled at an hourly rate – round-trip and are roughly …an hour. Longer deliveries are occasionally arranged, but must be determined on a case-by-case basis.
While it is generally not a problem for clients to transport smaller cakes, self-transporting any cake is at your own risk. Romana Cake House does not recommend clients self-transport 3D/sculptural cakes, cakes over 2 tiers tall or any cake more than 1 hour distance and is not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it has left our bakery.
The complete order, including delivery charges, must be paid in full, no later than 4 weeks, for wedding cakes and, for specialty cakes, 3 days prior to the delivery date. Payment must be done in person at …. store. We do not accept payment over the telephone.

Can I book a tasting for my wedding when I only have 30 guests attending?
We limit our wedding/specialty cakes tastings for a minimum of 50 people/slices. We would be happy for you to come in and taste what we have in our bakery case by the slice. If you sign with us we will reimburse you for the cost of the cake.

Can I bring you a picture of a cake I want?’/’My daughter is crazy about this character’. Can you make it?
Well, we are 100% sure that we can, but only 99% sure we will be able to. We respect the design time and work that goes into creating the cakes seen in magazines and on the web sites of other chefs and bakers. Therefore we limit our design work to that done by our own staff and associates. We will gladly use your picture as inspiration for the basic design but we do not make copies of other artists’ work. There are a few cakes we won't make. If it's a cake of a copy-righted image or character or someone else’s creation we can't do it. We can only make "inspired by" cakes, but that's the closest we can come.
